Full-Time Play Therapist

Position Overview:
‍
CLinical Therapist · Full Time · W-2
Austin, Texas · In-Office and Telehealth

Start date: As soon as possible  ·  Applications reviewed on a rolling basis

We are hiring a full-time Play Therapist to join a growing play therapy team serving the communities of color that make up most of our practice. Your week is children, teens and families, with the parent and caregiver work that makes play therapy stick. You'll work in-office in a dedicated playroom, with telehealth available for parent sessions and older clients when clinically appropriate.

We cannot keep up with referrals for play therapy. That means the clients are waiting for you, not something you have to build on your own.

Company Description:

Colors of Austin Counseling (COAC) is an inclusive, affirming therapy collective serving children, teens, adults, couples and families across Austin and virtually across Texas. We are a multidisciplinary practice that works with clients ages 3 and up, which means we treat the whole family system, and play therapy is one of the most in-demand services we offer. Our clinicians do deep, meaningful clinical work while a dedicated support team carries the administrative, billing, marketing and operational load.

Responsibilities:

What You’ll Do

  • Provide play therapy and child, teen and family therapy that is ethical, evidence-informed, culturally responsive and affirming
  • Provide parent and caregiver sessions as part of each child's treatment
  • Facilitate therapy groups in-office and, once we have school partnerships in place, in partner schools
  • Meet the billable-hours KPI of 90–100 hours per month
  • Complete documentation within 48 business hours of each session in SimplePractice
  • Maintain the playroom and shared play therapy materials to COAC standards
  • Meet regularly with your Clinical Director and quarterly with our CEO for support, goal-setting and professional growth
  • Maintain the continuing education and credentialing requirements for your license and, if applicable, your RPT credential
  • Participate in the play therapy team's monthly affinity clinical consultation group (one hour, paid)
  • Take on occasional macro work as opportunities arise, such as workshops, school-based programming and content, always approved in advance and paid separately

Expectations:

Your Schedule, Your Way

You build your own schedule. As long as you are meeting your billable hours, you set the hours that work for you. Two things we ask:

  • Afternoons and evenings: at least three afternoon/evening blocks per week, because play therapy demand lives between 3 and 7pm
  • Weekends: Saturday or Sunday availability is highly recommended

Required Qualifications and skills:

Who You Are

  • Education: Master's degree in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or psychology
  • Licensure: Licensed in Texas as an LPC, LCSW, LMFT or Licensed Psychologist, or pre-licensed as an LPC-Associate, LMSW or LMFT-Associate in good standing, or graduating within 90 days
  • Play therapy: Training or supervised experience in play therapy (RPT or RPT-in-progress a plus, not required)
  • Experience: Children ages 3–12 and their families; experience with teens and school settings is a plus
  • Community: Rooted in culturally responsive practice with communities of color; bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred
  • Availability: Able to offer at least three afternoon/evening blocks per week, ideally with weekend availability
  • Values: Committed to inclusive, affirming care for LGBTQIA+ clients, BIPOC communities and clients across identities and seasons of life
  • Practice: Grounded in ethical practice, timely documentation and collaborative communication

Environment:

Austin, TX. Work from either or both of our two offices on Berkman Dr and Marathon Blvd, each with a dedicated playroom. Play therapy sessions are in person; telehealth is available for parent sessions and older clients when clinically appropriate.

Full-time W-2 employee, paid biweekly. Reports to the Clinical Director.

Compensation:

Compensation

  • Clinical services: our standard clinician split for every clinician at the practice: 55% of collected fees for sessions billed at $184 or less; 60% of collected fees for sessions billed at $185 or more (calculated before the 3.15% card processing fee). Self-pay play therapy at COAC is $200 per session.
  • Affinity consultation group: one hour per month, paid at $25/hour
  • Administrative pay: 5 hours per pay period at $20/hour when billable-hour requirements are met
  • Meetings and trainings: Required team meetings and trainings are paid at $20/hour
  • Macro work: When assigned, paid at $175/hour for live facilitation, $60/hour for content creation and $40/hour for prep

What we offer:

2027 Benefits

2027 benefit rates will be finalized in December 2026.

  • Health, dental & vision insurance: Health insurance benefits are available to eligible employees, subject to the terms and eligibility requirements of the practice's health insurance plan
  • Paid time off: Up to 40 paid PTO hours per year, accrued monthly, plus 40 hours of unpaid time off available from your first day
  • Paid holidays: 5 paid holidays per year (New Year's Day, Juneteenth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas), with flexibility to substitute a holiday that's meaningful to you
  • In-house clinical supervision for LMSWs: If you are a social worker working toward your LCSW, we provide clinical supervision in-house with one of our LCSW-S supervisors at no cost to you
  • Pre-licensed clinicians: You practice under supervision, and our billing team handles payer rules and client assignment so you can focus on your clients
  • Malpractice insurance: Covered by COAC
  • Everything else is covered: Office and playroom space and materials, SimplePractice EHR with telehealth, billing and credentialing support, marketing and website management, and CEU and team development opportunities
