‍
CLinical Therapist · Full Time · W-2
Austin, Texas · In-Office and Telehealth

Start date: January 2027  ·  Application deadline: November 20, 2026

This is a combined clinical and leadership role. You will keep an active therapy caseload while leading the Clinical Internship Program, a cornerstone of COAC's community impact that gives Master's-level interns (Social Work, Professional Counseling, and Marriage & Family Therapy) rigorous, ethically grounded mentorship and clinical training. You will be a member of COAC's Leadership Team.

The program averages about 4 interns per semester (with capacity for up to 6), partners with at least 5 universities, and hosts single-semester, full-year, and summer placements.

Company Description:

Colors of Austin Counseling (COAC) is an outpatient group practice providing high-quality, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally affirming therapy to our diverse community. Anchored in our core values of collaboration, initiative, connection, intention, community, accountability, and learning, we are cultivating a practice where both clients and clinicians thrive.

Responsibilities:

What You’ll Do

Internship Program Leadership (5–10 hours per week)

  • University partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with accredited Master's programs (including UT Austin, St. Edward's, Baylor, and national partners). Manage affiliation agreements, university requirements, and site reviews, and hold regular check-ins with university field liaisons.
  • Community partnerships: When COAC has active school or community partnerships, such as school-based therapy groups, lead the internship program's role in that work.
  • Program outreach: Promote the internship program to universities, community providers, and local organizations to keep a steady pipeline of qualified interns each semester and enough client referrals for interns to meet their required clinical hours.
  • Intern selection: Lead COAC's standardized intern selection process, including screening tools, scoring rubrics, panel interviews, and matching interns with supervisors.
  • Onboarding and intern experience: Plan and run intern orientation each semester, including EHR (SimplePractice) training and practice policies. Work with the marketing team to get new interns' bios and profiles live before they start, and with the Client Care Coordinator to match interns with clients who fit their training. Plan intern celebrations at the end of each semester.
  • Supervisor leadership: Support and develop intern supervisors, meet with them monthly, give feedback to supervisors and interns, and make sure documentation and crisis response protocols are followed.
  • Direct supervision: Provide 1 hour of weekly individual clinical supervision for up to 2 interns per semester, and lead monthly group supervision.
  • Community-based (macro) practice: Guide interns' community practice hours and lead a semester-long community project with interns and supervisors.
  • Training series: Coordinate a monthly training series in which supervisors present on a focused topic, such as a therapeutic modality, a specific population, or ethics in practice, and coordinate outside professional development trainers for interns.
  • Program evaluation: Review intern clinical metrics (utilization, cancellation, and rebooking rates) and feedback from interns, supervisors, and client progress measures each month. Share a monthly summary with leadership and make improvements as needed.
  • Leadership meetings: Attend biweekly clinical leadership meetings with the Clinical Director.

Direct Clinical Practice (20 billable hours per week)

  • Provide ethical, evidence-informed, and affirming therapy to individuals, children, teens, families, and couples within your scope of competence
  • Option to facilitate therapy groups (group hours count toward your clinical caseload)
  • Develop treatment plans and coordinate care as needed
  • Complete clinical notes within 48 business hours of each session, and respond to messages (Slack, email, and SimplePractice) within 48 business hours
  • Attend monthly team meetings, required trainings, and consultation groups
