APPROACH TO THERAPY

Hello, my name is Alyssa and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

I firmly believe that all people have intrinsic worth and value and use that in and outside of my work to build safe and trustworthy relationships with others.

I take a very relational approach to therapy and base my work off of my training in Trust Based Relational Interventions which is a trauma informed lens that provides a safe space for clients to explore what is happening within them. I maintain an open and curious perspective when working with clients that allows a judgment free space for clients to feel heard. I utilize different therapeutic techniques including somatic practices, nature-based therapy, attachment-based therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and play therapy to support individuals in their healing journey.

I draw from many somatic practices that empower clients to explore the sensations in their bodies and heal trauma that is stored not only in their memories but also in their bodies. I believe that all individuals have everything they need within them to be their most authentic, curious, and empowered selves. My role is to help my clients work through beliefs and ways of living that are no longer serving them in order to empower their most true selves. I would be honored to be a part of your healing journey!

EDUCATION

I have received a Bachelor’s of Social Work from Baylor University and a Master’s of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas in Austin.

PROFESSIONAL

I have worked for several years in the school system and have extensive knowledge in working with children, adolescents, and their families. My expertise is in supporting individuals and families navigating complex trauma. My work has focused primarily on immigrant youth and families, children and adolescents in life transitions, children and adult survivors of abuse and trauma, and women experiencing domestic violence. I have a passion for advocating for social and racial justice and seek to create a space where all people can receive quality mental health services. I enjoy working with people of color and have extensive experience supporting individuals and families through racial injustices and trauma.

PERSONAL

When I’m not working, you can find me exploring different trails and spots in nature all over Austin and the surrounding areas. I have a passion for traveling and learning from other cultures and ways of life. I love spending time with friends and family and building deep relationships with those around me.
