Therapy for BIPOC individuals and families, in Austin and across Texas

At Colors of Austin Counseling, you shouldn't have to explain your culture, your family or your experience of race before you can start healing. We are an identity-affirming therapy collective, and most of the people we serve are Black, Indigenous and People of Color. Many of our therapists share that lived experience. We see children as young as 3, teens, adults, couples and whole families, in person at our two Austin offices or virtually anywhere in Texas.

How we work

Culture is part of the treatment, not a footnote. Your therapist will ask about your family, community, faith and language, and make room for how those shape what you're going through. We draw on approaches like Internal Family Systems, EMDR, somatic therapy, play therapy and family therapy, matched to your goals. Sessions in Spanish are available with Claudia Hernandez Vargas.

What we help with

Individuals and couples

  • Racial trauma, racism and discrimination at school, work or in your community, plus identity exploration and belonging.
  • Anxiety, depression, stress, burnout and grief, and couples navigating different cultures and family expectations.

Children and families

  • Intergenerational and family-of-origin trauma, and bicultural and immigrant family experiences, including being a child of immigrants.
  • Parenting support, and play therapy that helps children as young as 3 work through big feelings.
