Why I Do This Work
I came to this work out of a curiosity and love for what it is to be human. I initially was hungry to explore and understand my human experience, which led me to accompany others on that journey of exploration as well. We move through so much in our lives with such courage and strength. To be human is challenging, but beautiful. I get to honor how we face those challenges and witness that beauty every day.
Approach to Therapy
To me, relationship is the most important part of therapy, and of life; relationship to self, relationship to others, relationship to our dreams, to name a few. I’m here to offer a collaborative relationship that supports your needs, desires, and dreams. We get to weave our session together. I value engaging in compassionate communication and will always check in with you about the direction you would like to go in our sessions. My general nature as a clinician is warm, collaborative, and compassionate.
I offer body-based psychotherapy (Somatic Experiencing), incorporating how we feel in our bodies into our process session. I find the lens of nervous system work and honoring our bodies’ needs is a compassionate one, that views the body as protective and an access point for our intuition and authenticity. I incorporate nervous system regulation techniques that help us land in greater presence and a greater sense of safety within our current experience. I have found, in my own personal nervous system work, that nervous system regulation has helped me to experience a greater spectrum of presence and aliveness in my life and relationships. I cater to each individual and weave in other modalities, depending on client interest, like attachment perspectives or dreamwork, for example.
Education
I went to college and graduate school in New York. I was fascinated by systems: nervous systems, family systems, ecosystems, from the micro to the macro, and understanding the underlying thread/intelligence influencing our lives. So, I ended up majoring in Science Technology and Society at Vassar College and getting my Master’s in Social Work at Columbia University. I love that social work holds an awareness of the impact of systems on community and the individual
Personal
I am originally from the East Coast but lived abroad as a child. I like to live an active lifestyle and spend time in nature. Trees are the ultimate healers to me! I love to run and running was my first form of therapy in high school. I enjoy making crafts and talking about magical things with my friends. I am close to my family and we have a 20-year-old cat named Yuki! She is the cutest (and the wisest).
Favorite place in Austin: Ann and Roy Butler Trail
Favorite Saturday afternoon activity: Thrifting or a long neighborhood walk looking at fun houses/gardens.
Favorite self-care tip: I always check in with my body and ask, “Are we a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’ to this?” whether it’s going to an event, going out to eat, or something work-related. I find that filtering my decisions through my body is my greatest self-care hack.
Favorite quote or affirmation: “You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.” - Mary Oliver (Wild Geese)
I feel most calm and content when: After meditation, movement, or a deep chat with a friend. <3
I love learning about: New Approaches and lenses for the human experience, different spiritual traditions, energy work.
