Licensed Professional Counselor, Texas License #75958
I am a bilingual and bicultural Licensed Professional Counselor who facilitates psychotherapy sessions in English and Spanish in Austin, TX. My experience thus far has taught me that adverse situations experienced in childhood have an impact on how we perceive and interact with our immediate environment on a daily basis. I have also learned that the further away we are from our ‘true self’ the more challenges, suffering, and dissatisfaction we experience within our current world.
As a Humanistic psychotherapist, I aim to form a therapeutic relationship through which the individual feels safe to share his or her experience. I believe in a collaborative endeavor through which the therapist and the client find ways for the individual in therapy to work toward becoming the best version he or she is meant to be. When working with families, I strive to provide an environment in which the parent and the youth learn to communicate better by deeply understanding the experience of the other and by learning to verbalize and express implicit or unclear messages that are often misunderstood.
I earned my doctorate in Counseling from the University of North Texas in 2018. My clinical work in the doctoral program led me to enhance my therapeutic skills and expand on personal attributes vital to the counseling process. I have had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, adults, and families in a variety of settings and contexts.
As a school counselor, I facilitated Child-Centered Play Therapy for students and provided family counseling and workshops for their parents. I have worked with undocumented minors whose dangerous environment obligated them to abandon their homes and embarked on the treacherous and traumatic journey from Central America to the United States border. I worked with the juvenile justice system and facilitated client-centered therapy for the youths and their parents. In the agency setting, I worked with adult clients who presented with a variety of concerns including, but not limited to anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem and self-worth.
I am aware that it may be a challenge to take the first step toward finding a therapist who will be a good match for your individual experience. I hope that if you choose to reach out to me, together we will work through the initial awkwardness and strive toward a collaborative effort that leads to a better overall experience.
