Practicing in Austin, TX I am a therapist that enjoys working with those that believe in the importance of relationships, both with yourself and those around you. I am here to be with you in listening and processing thoughts, feelings and events that have impacted your life. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor that has been in the field for about a decade.
I am passionate about working with couples, individuals and helping professionals. My work with couples is often focused around working on communication, learning to better support one another, regaining the spark they once felt and relationship “tune-ups”.
When it comes to individuals, I work with clients who are simply wanting to work on themselves in a variety of contexts, whatever that may be. Finally, I especially love working with helping professionals who may be dealing with secondary trauma from their work.
Before joining Colors of Austin, my career has put me in a variety of mental health settings to include outpatient substance abuse clinics, a medical detox unit providing therapeutic support, within an inpatient psychiatric facility, other private practice settings, and was most recently the clinical director for a mental health clinic. I believe that working in such a wide variety of settings has made me a well-rounded clinician with knowledge that has allowed me to further my career in the field of mental health.
I believe therapy is an important personal investment which is why I provide a very collaborative and supportive therapeutic experience. I rely on you, the client, to tell me your needs and I do my best to tailor therapy so it’s the right fit. For couples, I utilize the Gottman method which is based on 40 years of research. I am Gottman level 1 and 2 trained and have been following John Gottman’s research for over a decade. This method encourages the use of other therapeutic techniques to enhance the couples experience. It is highly behavioral and allows for techniques such as Emotionally focused therapy (which is more emotionally based) to be incorporated, as a way to focus on all areas of the relationship. This all around approach ensures couples will feel heard and understood inside and outside the therapy room.
For individuals I utilize client-centered therapy, cognitive-behavior therapy, rational-emotive behavior therapy, and other techniques. For clients that are creative or dare to be creative, I’ve been known to incorporate interests such as art, sand tray, music and other mediums into the therapy room. For helping professionals, I am trained in Compassion Fatigue therapy to help you deal with secondary trauma that is inherent in the helping field.
When entering a therapeutic relationship with me, you’ll get the supportive insight to gain clarity, skill, and self-compassion we all strive to have in life. I will help you have a better relationship with yourself and with those around you.
I look forward to working with you!
