My name is Francis de Leon and I am a Licensed Marriage & Family therapist in Cedar Park, Texas. My approach for working with clients is eclectic, as I use different techniques and approaches into my work. I believe in meeting my clients where they are in their healing journey while being clear and compassionate. I use humor, creativity, body movement, play activities, and story telling in my sessions.

I graduated from the University of Pan American, now named UTRGV, for my undergraduate degree in Communication Studies in 2008. I studied human communication within families, workplaces, and romantic relationships. After that I received my Master in Marriage & Family Therapy at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX in 2012.

During my graduate studies, I provided counseling in Spanish for the Latinx community and conducted 8-hour Premarital Workshops at the Family Life Center in San Antonio. I also provided counseling for children and families at the Family Life Center with the Shertz-Cibolo Independent District.

After my graduate studies I gained experience in hospital settings where I helped adults and adolescents experiencing mental health concerns. I conducted group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy to help patients gain healthy coping skills. This is when I discovered my passion for helping families experiencing traumatic events and helping them find ways to provide emotional support for each other during a difficult transition.

Prior to joining Colors of Austin Counseling, I served the communities in Austin and Georgetown for non-profit organizations. I got trained in Theraplay Level I and learned about Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI). These trainings inspired me to provide emotional regulation and nurturing groups for children ages 7-10. I believe if children gain awareness and ways to express their feelings, thoughts, and needs they have a higher chance of become thriving adults! As well as giving children healthy, secure, and nurturing experiences with their peers and primary caregivers to help them develop healthy relationships through their lifetime.

Populations I serve:

Children ages 5-10 experiencing emotional distress due to displacement such as separation anxiety, history of deportation and/or relocation, and developmental change. I provide parent consultations and involvement as needed in their counseling journey. I also integrate family therapy if appropriate.

Adolescents ages 14-17 experiencing anxiety related to school difficulties, peer relationships, and life transition into adulthood.

Adults experiencing distress related to peer relationships, life transitions, attachment, and family of origin.
